James is currently Associate Professor of Religious Education at the University of Chester. He is the author of:

James is recognised as a scholar of Religious Education in schools. In addition to this major focus of his research James is also an outstanding teacher; a scholar of Christian Education, Mormon theology, contemporary Mormonism, religion in science fiction and fantasy literature.

James is also Chair of Examiners for Religious Studies (GCSE, International GCSE, AS and A Level) for one of the main awarding organisations in England.

James is passionate about freedom of religion and belief. He serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Freedom Declared Foundation, a charity that works for freedom of religion and belief for all people.
