James is currently Associate Professor of Religious Education at the University of Chester. He is the author of Religious Education in the Secondary School: An introduction to teaching, learning and the World Religions published by Routledge in 2015, and Beyond the Big Six Religions: Expanding the Boundaries in the Teaching of Religion and Worldviews (University of Chester Press, 2019).
James is recognised as a scholar of Religious Education in schools. In addition to this major focus of his research James is also an outstanding teacher; a scholar of Christian Education, Mormon theology, contemporary Mormonism, religion in science fiction and fantasy literature.
James is also Chair of Examiners for Religious Studies (GCSE, International GCSE, AS and A Level) for one of the main awarding organisations in England.
James is passionate about freedom of religion and belief. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Freedom Declared Foundation, a charity that works for freedom of religion and belief for all people.
